Sefar Expedition

Overview

There exists in the depths of the extreme Algerian Sahara an important part of the history of humanity, it is the 8th wonder of the world. On the heights of Tassili N'ajjer is the oldest known troglodyte city in this day “Sefar”an open-air museum, more than 18,000 rock paintings adorn the cavities of these legendary caves whose secrets and mysteries persist to this day, discovered by the famous “Jebrine Machar Ag Mohamed” in 1934.

The Central Sahara is a huge “gallery” of rock art containing several thousand paintings and engravings from various periods stretching from prehistory until the recent historical era. However, no exhaustive inventory has yet been established and apparently not all rock art sites have been discovered, since new images have been reported each year.
